Entomologist W Hough reports about 20 percent of young aphids on green buds are rosy aphids, urging growers to stop dinitro egg sprays. Delayed dormant spray should begin immediately for most varieties, except Rome Golden Delicious Yorks, using oil emulsions and tar oil for improved control.
Mr and Mrs Ray A Blosser of Greystone Terrace report their son Pvt Maurice Blosser of the 88th Division in Italy has been wounded in action. The leg wound is not serious and he is convalescing in hospital. He has been awarded the Purple Heart after induction last May, with transfers to North Africa in November and to Italy in January.
A meeting of city retail merchants is set for tonight in the City Hall court room at 3 o clock to elect officers for the year. All merchants are urged to attend the session.

Chief of Police announced Miss Virginia Kenney of 312 N Loudoun Street was arrested after admitting the baby found in a cemetery box was hers. The infant lived, coroner's report said. The box traced to Safeway Store, wrapped in a blue skirt and towels, was found by a laborer near cemetery work.
John T Lindsey 70, prominent Clarke County farmer and former horseman, died at 8 15 am at his Berry's Ferry home after years of ill health. He led the Berryville Horse and Colt Show for over a decade, served 12 years on the county Board of Supervisors, and was a director of the First National Bank of Berryville. RAF Halifaxes damaged rail targets at Vaires near Paris and Lancasters attacked an engine works in Lyon while Mosquitos bombed Kiel. One bomber was lost. The raids marked the twelfth French attack this month as part of Hitler's anti invasion plan alongside U S air strikes on Brunswick and Pas de Calais. Nine U S bombers and nine fighters did not return.
Ar Commandos slash Japs in Burma raid damaging Mohnyin HQ and cutting road approaches. Chinese forces under Stilwell push toward Myitkyina, creating roadblocks north of Laban and encircling Japanese units of the 18th Division. KeKaiming and Imphal area reports indicate heavy fighting along the India Burma frontier.

The Frederick County School Board in special session approved a tentative 1944 45 budget with a $10 monthly local raise for each of 97 teachers, boosting annual pay by about $90. The plan awaits final approval by the Board of Supervisors, with further small raises for bus drivers and janitors, and funds for repairs, a new school bus, and wells.
A jury heard Carl Renner deny receiving 1000 pounds of sugar from Carl Baker after investigators found dextrose sugar traces in Renner’s car. Witnesses for Renner claim he stayed at Shawnee Filling Station all night and did not discuss legal help with Baker. Additional testimony questioned Baker’s ability to haul that quantity and noted no records of a sugar purchase.
