M D Mitchell becomes Winchester pastor, Rev Dr H M Carter reappointed as presiding elder, Rev J G Hooks stays at Frederick circuit. Conference debates fall meeting time, aims for two annuals in one year, and thanks church staff.
Commander Richard E. Byrd sails from Brooklyn on the Chantier with 44 aboard to reach Tromso Norway and King’s Bay Spitzbergen for a first 400 mile jump toward Peary Land. Sponsors include John D. Rockefeller Jr Edsel Ford G Trubee Davison and Vincent Astor with Rear Admiral Silas Plunkett aboard. Byrd plans to return by late June after assembling the Fokker aircraft and making the polar ascent.
John Casey 88, employed by the Martinsburg Gas Company, was found dead by workmen in a newly constructed house where he attempted a gas connection. He is the third member of the family to die violently. One brother drowned and another was killed in a railroad accident. Surviving are his widow and aged father.

Miss Maggie Shiner aged 76 died at 6 15 pm at her home 102 South Kent street after long illness. She leaves brother Stewart Shiner and sister Mrs Kate Jenkins and a large extended family. Known as Aunt Mag she ran a boardinghouse 16 years aiding homeless youths with charity and hospitality. Funeral Thursday at 2 30 pm from her home with Rev Casselman officiating and burial in Mount Hebron Lutheran section beside her parents. Pallbearers named.
City Hall janitor James W. Hillyard, a veteran employee of thirty years, fell ill with influenza and could not report for duty today. He was described as quite sick, with no prior recent illness of this severity recalled by City Hall staff.
The one hundred forty second session of the Baltimore Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South concluded with praise for Winchester. Bishop Candler delivered valued addresses while crowds filled seats day and night. The Bradock Street Church pastor expresses deep thanks for hospitality and support from city churches and residents.
