Jews Seek UN Troop Help To Shield Jerusalem
The Jewish Agency asked the United Nations to rush about 10 000 troops from Denmark and Norway to Jerusalem to prevent the Holy City from becoming a battleground as Britain relinquishes control. A Jerusalem spokesman said the UN should decide which forces are sent and not necessarily those Danish and Norwegian troops. The plan follows Britain’s May 15 mandate end and Aug. 1 troop withdrawal from Palestine with evacuations already under way.
