Acting Secretary of State Cotton reaffirmed that the United States would not consider any consultative pact obligating military support. London reports said Britain favored a security pact with France as talks revived to break Franco Italian deadlock.
The Leidig property numbers 301 and 303 National Avenue will be sold in front of Court House at noon Saturday March 29. Ten room double residence with a fine corner for business and proximity to the new school. Rents amount to $540 per year.
Isaiah Roe and deputy will be at the County Court House each Saturday through May 17 to assess tangible and intangible personal property and income.
The Friendship Fire Company's banquet will feature Hon. Ashton Dovel of Williamsburg and Hon. Frank Wray of Berryville as main speakers on Thursday evening April 3. T. Russell Cather will be toastmaster with an orchestra and local musicians providing entertainment.

In Chicago police hold George M. Sunday 36 son of evangelist Billy Sunday for Los Angeles authorities who seek extradition on a bond forfeiture morality charge. Sunday was arrested during a storm after a telegram bearing his name was found. he admitted identity when questioned. Details of charges were not given by Chicago police.
The Democratic primary to choose three council members from each ward will be held next Tuesday April 1. First Ward candidates are J. H. Henry Herman Hable Fred W. Forney Lawrence Hollis Peyton J. Marshall. Second Ward candidates are W. W. Dellinger Fred L. Glaize R. Frank Barr John H. Rosenberger Benj F. Davis. Voters will cast ballots for nominees from their own ward only.
The Winchester Chamber of Commerce program airs Saturday from 5 to 6 PM with the Kiwanis Club in charge. Three Washington musicians William F. Raymond tenor Fred East baritone and Robert Thomas pianist will perform solos and duets on air after a Kiwanians event at Fredericksburg. The artists recently appeared at Hagerstown and belong to the Washington Kiwanis Club.

The late George D. Gleason died Monday night at Memorial Hospital and lies in the morgue. Papers show he lived in New York City and conducted Washington business dealings with a local firm. He left many letters from women in Patterson New Jersey Cooperstown New York and other places and no clear next of kin. Efforts continue to locate relatives as investigators sort through his papers and photographs.
Nancy Bowen an aged Sayuga Indian testified in Buffalo that she killed Mrs Henry Marchland on orders from Lila Jimerson the Seneca offender in a murder case. She described striking the woman with a hammer then smothering her with chloroformed paper to silence cries.
Deputy state fire marshal L. M. Downs visits Winchester with J. William Stryker to inspect schools and businesses. He praises protections at the Handley and colored pupil buildings and urges removal of waste paper to prevent fires, noting possible enforcement under insurance code.

The ruling will force buyers to obtain local licenses and engine numbers before driving cars home cross border. It creates hardship for Winchester and Berryville dealers and for buyers near the state line.
Mrs. Jennie Rivers Byrd 91 widow of Col William Byrd of Winchester died Monday in the Maryland Hospital for Women Baltimore. Her body arrived by Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and interment followed at Mount Hebron Cemetery with a grave side service by Rev Robert B Nelson and pallbearers named from local connections. She had been a member of Christ Episcopal Church for over 60 years.
John E. Edgerton president of the National Association of Manufacturers urged President Hoover to veto the tariff bill passed by the Senate. He said the Senate plan offers less flexibility than the 1922 law and that farm and labor groups share the view. He favored the House provisions of flexibility and warned that adopting the Senate version would be a backward step.
Demolition of the West Monmouth street hose house uncovered a cornerstone dated 1897. Inside were an 1827 copper cent, 1897 newspaper copies, a building fund note, a member roster, and a note by bricklayer J Henkel Henry later city councilman Buzz. The records recount a 1897 council delegation seeking hose and land, with details of company members and a 1897 council appropriation for the building.
Northern Frederick County felt a touch of yesterday's western storm as snow depth reached one to two inches in parts of the county. In Winchester the morning brought only a slight flurry and much colder air.
