Paris endures ongoing shelling as a huge German long-range cannon is located 76 miles from the city. Reports cite air force involvement and alarm drills while French civilians resume routines amid uncertainty over weapon accuracy and origin.
American officers in France warned the western front faces its most critical moment since the Marne, rivaling Verdun. They urged home support and patience as German moves, including Peronne and Ham gains and renewed Paris bombardment, aim to break morale and end the war before U.S. forces arrive in strength.
