A four engine B 50 bomber on a routine training mission from Davis Monthan Air Force Base crashed in flames in a Arizona desert at 17 000 feet killing twelve air force men. Witnesses said the craft broke apart in the air with one wing possibly torn off and engines on the left side catching fire.

Lee Albert of 802 National Ave is elected exalted ruler of Winchester Lodge 867 Elks. He will be installed April 5, succeeding James R. Brandon. Albert is the first World War II veteran to head the local order and served 42 months in the army across Alaska, European and Pacific theatres.
J. R. McCormack of Harrisonburg, the Washington Evening Star distributor, escaped with a slight head cut after his 1949 Chevrolet panel truck collided with a Diamond T tractor trailer on Rt. 11 two miles north of Middletown. Robert Lee Sanders, driver of the Pittsburgh truck, said a cab cushion fire forced a brief stop. he was not hurt and faces an April 3 court date for reckless driving. The damage to Sanders’s rig was minimal, about 25 dollars.
In Brussels more than 15000 workers protested Leopold amid a 24 hour general strike. Police were overwhelmed as strikebreakers were pelted and tram cars halted. Socialist leader Spaak warned of grave trouble if Leopold returned to the throne, with broad walkouts across Wallonia and limited action in Flanders.

The die is used only for nationally significant events and coincides with the Red Cross Pond Drive this month. Collectors from Hawaii have sent letters for the new cancellation, a first in the festival's history.
