Upwards of five hundred clerical and lay delegates attend the southern metropolitan annual conference at Braddock Street Church where Bishop Candler of Atlanta, Ga. convenes with hymn prayer and an address on the kingdom's power and place in human life.
The Baltimore annual conference session opened with Bishop Warren A. Candler presiding at Braddock Street Church. He noted the historic gavel from Winchester and quoted Bishop Candler declaring American Methodism owes more to Asbury than to Wesley. The conference announced death of Rev. Dr. John A. Kern and prepared for missions report and election of General Delegates.
Office of Apple Blossom Festival Chamber of Commerce invites the public to request free invitations by mail. Each letter sent out should include one four-digit stamp code.
Philadelphia jurors convict David L. Marshall of murdering Anna May Deitrich in a crime that left a dismembered body found in a Delaware County woods. He faces a 10 to 20 year penitentiary sentence after prosecutors say he confessed briefly before denying the admission on the stand.
Handley High School closes its senior class series with Madam Doda de Phillippe presenting a refined program. Marion Carley accompanies on piano. Hen Moeller tenor and Ruth Stickney join as soloist and ensemble. Phillippe will sing Madam Butterfly with noted artistry and emotional clarity.
New York March 24 Pronounced reactionary price tendencies developed at the opening of today's stock market. Selling swept across high priced industrials with sharp breaks and bear sentiment rising due to reports of slowing business and government oil merger probes. Rails showed resistance though Chesapeake and Ohio posted a loss. Motors and other high priced shares slumped to new yearly lows as call loan renewals rose to 4 percent, fueling the selling wave.
In Harpers Ferry West Virginia authorities probe the disappearance and headless death of Charles W Moore a Maryland resident. Prosecutor Porterfield questions Harry Cummins and two Philadelphia Ashbaugh sisters while an inquest is planned. Moore reportedly borrowed money and crossed the river before vanishing. Moonshine theory and eel feeding are among unconfirmed possibilities.
Josiah Kirby former president of the Cleveland Discount Company was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison with concurrent terms totaling 44 years and fined 7000 by Judge John M Killits in Cleveland for using the mails to defraud. The cumulative sentence equals 44 years with concurrent runs reducing actual time served.

Requiem high mass was offered this morning in the Church of the Sacred Heart by Rev Father T A Rankin for the late Mrs Belle Noonan widow of Bartholomew Noonan who died Monday evening after a gradual decline. Interment followed in the church cemetery with pallbearers William Collins Michael Lillis William Sullivan C L Jamison William Keating and Bernard Sullivan.

W T Spencer for Lynchburg Finance Company seeks repayment of a $450 lien from the sale of a Studebaker Six confiscated in Winchester when Oscar Farthing of Lynchburg was captured with liquor. The city intended to repair and use the car for police work. the lien priority and any remaining balance would go to the city after costs.
A registered letter sent June 9 1921 from the Metropolitan Company agency in Gore to the Bank of Gore showed a five year delay before delivery. The receipt finally reached Winchester and was turned over to the Metropolis agency, clarifying the long misplaced document and its late return.
Frank Cooper and Cooper Jackson were fined 15 dollars each in Boyce magistrate court for riotous conduct after speeding through the village and cursing officers. Bennie Randolph paid 12.50 for denouncing police upon arrest. Community protest follows perceived leniency toward offenders.

The Rev Dr John A Kern a noted Low Church educator and former Randolph Macon College president who also taught at Vanderbilt University died after a stroke in Dallas Texas He was 80 and will be buried in Martinsburg West Virginia with services planned in Braddock and a funeral train via the Ohio Railroad. Survivors include sons Dr Paul Bentley Kern and Dr Alfred Allen Kern and LeRoy Kern and Mrs Jesse Ormond. He studied at the University of Virginia Johns Hopkins and Winchester Academy and led Randolph Macon College and Vanderbilt University in moral philosophy biblical literature and theology.
