Residents in the county north of Winchester report a persistent wild dog pack depredating farms. Nine newborns join an expanding brood as eleven dogs were counted in one pack, with livestock losses blamed on the roaming animals. Attempts to kill or poison the pack have failed and authorities note the dogs’ keen senses and organized roaming.
Gary Indiana March 22 A civil engineer Lester Simpkins shot and killed probation officer Lucille Myers 51 after resenting questions about conditions in which his children were raised. He fled and was not yet captured. Myers died after being rushed to a hospital by her son William 21 who waited during the inquiry. The body lay near the room where Mrs Simpkins, the suspect’s wife, had just given birth to their tenth child.
Chicago report states Mrs. Inez Osborne, a divorcee, was arrested for assault with intent to murder Beatrice Caine wife of John F. Caine, a Can Company manager. Osborne hid in a closet last night and used a golf club and revolver to attack. Caine suffered severe injuries and reportedly agreed to divorce to wed Osborne.
Berlin March 22 Foreign Minister Stresemann told the Reichstag Germany reserves the right to withdraw its application should the Leon commission on reconstruction of the council not meet Germany's expectations.

Five judges ruled the affirmative that national prohibition has been a failure won the debate held in Gainesboro on Saturday night. The Luttrell family dominated both sides with multiple relatives arguing for and against prohibition while the judges judged based on argument quality rather than personal stance.
Police seek safe deposit box tied to a gang led by Richard Reese Whittemore an escaped convict in a $500000 loot spree across Baltimore Buffalo New York City and New Jersey. Investigators connect the group to six murders and several jewel heists including a $100000 Kendall gem robbery and a $350 confectionery store raid in Baltimore with a woman linked to the gang identified in photos.
Theodore Jones died at 4 am at the county infirmary after a long illness. He left a wife and son and a daughter in Reading, Pa. The funeral will be arranged when relatives are heard from. Jones once lost an arm in a grinding machine at the German Smith mill on South Braddock Street. Despite his disability he supported himself, but aging and cancer led to his removal to the parish farm.
Thirteen Chinese rebels died in a clash with a Dutch detachment sent to Achin Sumatra where trouble began earlier this month. A Dutch sergeant was killed and three relief soldiers were seriously wounded.
Robert P. Sachs, the complainant in the Bergdoll seduction case, leaves Berlin for a business trip to America aboard the George Washington liner. He carried affidavits detailing six charges of seduction to Mosbach for use at the trial. In the same report civic notes urge tree planting and local invitations for the Apple Blossom Festival.

Norfolk Richmond Roanoke Lynchburg and county groups have pledged substantial sums as progress nears the March 31 deadline. A joint Federal and Virginia Park Commission meeting is set for Richmond to review the campaign.
The mayor of Hamilton Virginia appealed to Winchester Fire Department for aid as a fire threatened to destroy the town. The message reached Friendship and Charley Roués companies, but poor road conditions between Winchester and Hamilton near Bluemont after the Shenandoah River would delay trucks, so the local department declined to respond.
The Winchester gas manager W A Ryan takes full responsibility for a Sunday gas odor due to neglect of purification oversight. He admits balancing gas service and the Apple Blossom festival at separate HQs caused lapses and asks residents to direct complaints to him at Apple Blossom Headquarters.

Goitre specialist Dr A W Graves will hold a free Goitre Clinic in Harrisonburg Virginia at 315 316 National Bank Building on Friday March 26 1926. At the previous clinic on February 26 1926 nearly all cases were curable without operation by medicinal treatment and all poor or needy cases were treated free of charge with patients paying only for drugs.
The Circuit Court at Martinsburg returned a verdict for the plaintiff in the Stephen vs Murphy alienation case, awarding $200. Witnesses included private investigator BE Rinker and transfer man Ben Fizer. court fined a missing witness $5 for not answering.
The popular musical comedy No No Nanette comes to the Empire Theatre on May 31 for one night. The production features 62 performers and a 10‑piece orchestra and will travel the country with the Philadelphia Boston Chicago and Southern companies.

Arrangements are in place for the Baltimore annual conference of the Methodist Church South to open tomorrow night at Braddock Church. Pastor Rev. Boyd V Switzer, local committee secretary, is assigning 17 delegates and pastors to hotels and homes. Sermons start at 8 pm tomorrow with sessions through the week and Bishop Warren A Candler is expected to address matters during the conference.
The subcommittee voted five to one for open hearings with six days of debate on five liquor modification measures. A hearing date was not set. Proposals include restoring wet status to states and legalizing various beer forms, with a major change to prescription whiskey restrictions. Senator Means chairs the panel with members Goff, Harold, Reed, and Walsh supporting the plan.
A report from KBY West Florida says W. Ed. Stokes Jr and three men reached Cape Carnaveral in a small boat after drifting at sea for a week since March 15. Miss Florence Crittenton received the message at West Florida. The group included a New York hotel owner’s son.
