The People's Drug Company on North Main Street started what it calls the first one cent sale in Winchester this morning. A large crowd formed as customers could buy one item at regular price and duplicate it for one more cent. Manager C A Davis praised the ad in The Star and anticipates a successful event running through Saturday night. D W Manners of the Paramount Drug Company in Washington is overseeing the sale.

Mrs. Belle Rinker Payne widow of N Payne of Clarke County West Virginia died at 11 oclock at her Martinsburg home after an illness of complications aged 64. Funeral 10 30 Friday from her home with interment at Paynes Chapel near Kent Virginia. Survived by two sons four daughters and four sisters with many extended Virginia and nearby state connections. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South and regarded for high character by friends.
American Railway Express Company announces erection of a new building on a lot west of the Baltimore and Ohio passenger station on East Piece Street. Temporary offices will open April first at 11 North Braddock Street, with occupancy planned for June. The current North Main Street office will be vacated.
London reports say the Irish crisis grows dire with talks of civil war on the border and Britain weighing a cordon of imperial troops along the Ulster and Irish Free State frontier as Churchill faces Commons questions.
Residents of western Frederick County gathered at Whitacre to support a steel and concrete bridge over Back Creek on the Gainesboro road. The project cost is $6,000 with the state paying half, county half, and city funds contributing about a quarter of the county share.
