Senate and House leaders push for rapid passage of the seven billion dollar British aid appropriation. Knudsen says full commitment planned within the fiscal year though spending may lag. leaders argue changes would blunt psycho logical impact and slow aid to the Axis powers.
The forecast covers March 21 to March 25 with moderate to heavy rain in the Middle Atlantic States beginning Monday night and ending Wednesday. Temperatures will run below normal tonight with a rise on Tuesday, remaining cooler than usual for five days.
Mrs James Kirtpatrick, just seconds from giving birth at a Manlius hospital, was asked by a hurried attendant to swap babies as she held her newborn daughter. The exchange request followed a mix up with an infant in the hospital.

The report notes infected whites delaying marriage or seeking treatment before license eligibility and requires notification and treatment if both parties marry in Virginia.
Richard H. Gray aged 41 died suddenly yesterday afternoon at his Washington D C apartment from a hemorrhage of the lungs. He had long worked with Gray and Sheetz in the clothing business and later served as clerk at the National Bank. He was an auditor for Tompkins Can one Company on a construction project. He was grandson of Richard L. Gray former clerk of the Corporation Court and local school. He leaves brothers and sisters in several cities and was an assistant financial secretary at St John’s Episcopal Church in Washington. Remains will return to Winchester for service.
Lady Astor the Virginia born MP and acting mayor toured every city rest center in Plymouth recapping the damage from a Nazi raid last night. Despite fatigue from a sleepless night directing firefighting at her home she visited Virginia House and the largest city center offering praise and encouragement to bomb displaced citizens.
The 1901 dedication of Winchester’s Rouss City Hall drew more than 2000 residents to tour the landmark. Mayor Barton praised the building and Lord Fairfax’s role, noting donations dating back 150 years. Charles B. Rouss and Fairfax were honored for enabling the city hall’s rise atop the clock tower’s reach.
Federal conciliator James F. Dewey said mediation conferences have improved relations between the United Automobile Workers and Ford. He noted re employment of Rouge plant workers reduced union pressure as NLRB prepares to hear UAW petitions for employee elections. Five year old John Evans, son of Mr and Mrs George A Evans, died after his scooter was struck by a car in front of his Virginia Avenue home in Hagerstown Maryland. Malcolm Clouser driver of the car said he did not see the boy until the scooter darted from behind a passing car. The family had moved to Hagerstown from Petersborough New Hampshire five days earlier. The parents and a younger son survive. Deputy Sheriff Robert Miller said no charges would be preferred.
