Stamp plan urged in farm bill debate

In Washington March 21 the Senate debated expanding the food stamp provision of the billion dollar farm bill. Senator La Follette urged raising surplus commodities disposal funds from 85 million to 113 million to add 60 more cities to the program. Senator O’Mahoney warned of unemployment and farm tenancy risks, calling for real jobs and wages to create a true market for farm products.

Colonel James C. Baker Camp No. 23 United Spanish War Veterans meets at the Golden Glow at 7:30 p.m. to celebrate its sixth anniversary. Speakers include Charles E. The camp, organized in Winchester in 1934, honors Col Baker for leading the Second Virginia Regiment in the Spanish American War.

Three Injured In West Virginia Work Zone Crash

Three West Virginia highway workers were injured near Romney when an automobile struck them as they stood at a work site. Two workers sustained serious injuries and were taken to Memorial hospital in Cumberland. The driver, reported intoxicated, ignored a watchman signal and fled to the scene where a hearing was under way in Romney.
