Andrew Bell secretary of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce and district deputy grand exalted ruler for Virginia travels from Winchester to Roanoke to visit Roanoke Lodge No. 197 one of Virginia’s largest with over 1 000 members and a class of 83 to be initiated. He then proceeds to Danville Lodge No. 227 for an official visit and another initiation class on the following night.
A school event at Kaufman School is held on Wednesday night March 21 at 7 30. The program benefits the school and features Mrs Bennett Russell of Williamsport Md and Mr and Mrs George Heirach of Washington D C. They visited Mr Lee Boxwell in the city over the weekend. Mrs ll and Mrs Bierach are sisters.
Four young men were injured early yesterday when their car skidded and overturned on Braddock Street extension near Valley Pike. Robert Mullen 24 suffered cuts to face. Leo Herrell 22 skull fracture. Wayne Ritter about 30 head injury. Bon 20 treated for facial wounds. One brake failed. car pinned occupants briefly. all were taken to Memorial Hospital. Millard Cain denied racing claims. The damaged Dodge drew crowds at the scene.
Winchester hosts the second Elks Frolic with a 40 man cast and new York arrive scenery. Reserved seats sold rapidly though some remain for both performances. The noon street parade delighted the business district and Elks plan a strong turnout from Hagerstown and Martinsburg.

Henry McKee through attorney H B Larrick moved in the Corporation Court for release from a twelve year sentence for transporting q nar, imposed April 17 last by Judge Whittas. He has served eleven months two days and seeks credit for good behavior plus release from fine and costs as he has not paid them. The court noted state roads options were blocked by health, and McKee has been a model prisoner, with Sheriff Pannett forwarding supportive documents.
Funeral services for John C. Horn assistant cashier of the Commercial and Savings Bank were held at his home 107 North Avenue with a large crowd attending. Rev A A Kelly of Grace Lutheran Church led the rites assisted by Rev W H Sampsell. Burial followed at Mount Hebron Cemetery with pallbearers J A Richard J I Sloat Clark M Smith B E F Davis W M Seal and W W Dellinger.
Jonathan Lupton 86 a lifelong Hampshire County resident died Saturday afternoon at his son Arthur Lupton’s West Water Street home in Wine after a general decline. He leaves few children. The body was moved to Hampshire County and funeral services were held at Mount Olive Church Potts Hollow with burial in the Quaker burial ground.
St Pauls Lutheran Church in Strasburg Virginia hosted the first annual convention of the Winchester Conference of the Lutheran Synod of Virginia on Friday March 9 with thirty delegates. Miss Frances Jenkins led the day and officers were elected for the new organizational code and by laws.
Colonel Davids of the United States Army on duty in Virginia judged Company I and Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, Winchester, as well as the local unit, to have passed a highly creditable inspection. He commended Winchester for maintaining two fine military organizations and discussed the need for a suitable armory. The units currently meet at the American Legion building while plans for a proper drilling hall are considered. Petersburg, by contrast, occupies a $200,000 city funded armory, with $25,000 allocated for rebuilding its militia headquarters.
