In Zion Illinois an anxious man rushed to Dr L G Weed with news of a new boy being carried in unconscious. The doctor then recognized the patient as his eight year old son William who had been thrown from a bicycle hitting a bump and died while the physician treated him.
The Democratic Executive Committee of Winchester meets at 7 30 PM in City Hall Council Chamber to pick a nominee for the short term Common Council vacancy caused by John H Rosenberger's resignation. NobLe C Pierce calls the meeting and invites filing notices from interested candidates. Wendell B Goode, serving temporarily, attended but later withdrew from the upcoming Democratic primary.
The Baltimore Mail liner City of Hamburg ran aground in heavy fog about 2 12 miles off Gibson Island outside Baltimore harbor. Captain Joseph E. Lee reported the incident while two tugs work to free the vessel with 26 passengers aboard including Rudolf Kurtz leader of the Czechoslovak trade delegation. The ship had delayed departure from Canton Pier by two and a half hours and had just resumed trans Atlantic service after prior collision repairs. Paul F. Shryock of Winchester serves as dining saloon supervisor aboard.
Rio de Janeiro reports say a plot to assassinate President Getulio Vargas and trigger revolts across provinces was thwarted. Police recovered 3000 daggers with swastika emblems from Plinio Salgado's home. Salgado fled, branded a fugitive. Revolts planned for March 11. Green shirt fascists to seize stations. raids halted the plan.
C C Logan vice president and Robert C Harnsberger director of Luray Caverns Corp visited Skyline Caverns near Front Royal guided by Walter Amos manager and Allen Massaeus. They praised the underground stream and unique formations and expect opening by June 1 rather than May as previously announced.
Lester Brockelhurst, 24, confessed hitchhiking killer, was electrocuted in Arkansas after claiming he did not deserve the death penalty. He admitted killing Gates of Little Rock, Theander of Rockford, and Griffiths of Fort Worth during a hitchhiking tour across 18 states. He spoke of a love affair and urged forgiveness and respect for parents as he died.
Paris reports France and Russia will press Poland and Lithuania for a peaceful end to their rift. France aims to persuade Poland to moderate its ultimatum while Russia seeks concessions from Lithuania. Allies include Poland for France and non aggression pacts bind Lithuania and Russia.
Funeral services for Col Brantz M. Roszel, Winchester educator and militarist, were held in Zion Episcopal Church Charles Town with Episcopal rites. Interment with military honors followed in the churchyard. Randolph. Virginia American Legion representatives attended. Roszel died in his sleep in Southern Pines North Carolina.

Berlin dispatch reports Adolf Hitler declaring that Wilson's principle of self determination led to brutal violations of German rights after Austria's absorption into the Reich. Goering announces dissolution of the Reichstag and a new election for April 10 as Austrian leaders attend. He cites a 95 percent plebiscite in Austria in favor of union and condemns the maltreatment of Germans across borders.
