Local markers to honor Winchester battlefields move forward
General T. M. Colvin of Harrisonburg Virginia led a conference with the Battlefield Markers Association in Winchester to place seven markers on nearby battlefields. The state will donate two bronze tablets and Winchester will provide stone bases. Winchester city funds around 375 dollars have been allocated for five remaining markers. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad gave 100 dollars for marker erection. General Colvin has led most of the project’s efforts.

Rum Runner Captured After Ditch Crash in Winchester
In Winchester a man, using the name Henderson, was caught after his car hit an open ditch while fleeing three policemen. Eight five gallon casks of alcohol and several gallons of broken liquor filled the wrecked Studebaker. Officers found labels claiming Scotch whiskey aged in England. the suspect said the liquor came from Baltimore and was destined for Lynchburg. The car was confiscated and charges of illegal transportation filed. Some claim the liquor is synthetic and the accident may raise a damages case over street lighting gaps.

Car Blown Up by Dynamite Near Wardensville

Accident victim dies after leg amputation at Memorial Hospital
