The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival preparations spring to life as Handley School and Lions Club enter floats. A mass meeting at the George Washington Hotel will hear progress and seek citizen approval for queen selection, parade theme, and event schedule.
The Christian Endeavor Societies of the United Brethren will hold a St Patrick s Day social in the church basement this Thursday at 730 p m. All three societies are invited. Mrs Ada Hicks heads a special committee to ensure a successful event. Junior and Intermediate superintendents are named Marie Fries Anna Karicofe Maude Hollar and Evelyn Barrett.
News from Athens reports normal life returning as Greece pursues stern penalties for disloyalty after last week’s revolt. The rebel cruiser Averoff, last to be recovered, anchors in Salamis Bay under a young midshipman, after ferried Venizelos to Cassos. Venizelos remains in Rhodes amid Italian assurances on extradition.
Senators move to curb Huey Long filibustering as they press the $4.88 billion work and relief bill. Glass, Robinson, and others clash over absence and pairing tactics while Long seeks to block the Roosevelt wage plan and fund college training for 300,000 youths.
The Senate rejected an amendment by Senator Longee to add up to 100 million for youth college or recreation training as part of a 4.88 billion relief bill. House appropriations moved on to debate an 118.1 million supply bill for Agricultural Department operations. Treasury plans a June 15 payment of Liberty bonds total 1.933 billion as investigations press on. Telecommunication firms urged higher government payment for telegram services while wage and hours debates and utility stock concerns shape NRA-era policy.
At a Stephens City nursery run by the VERA educational division, under Leslie D. Kline and W. O. McDaniels, volunteers and local businesses support Miss Mildred Shryock and Mrs. Orion Hopkins. The program uses simple donated furniture, nourishing meals, and health screenings to aid undernourished children, with cod liver oil and exams planned to address defects and aid development. Frederick Maryland March 14 Melvin Fout called a turkey abuse a Turk atrocity and Lloyd Burtner faced Magistrate W E Linn over a tin can tied to a turkey’s tail. Burtner admitted tying the can but the gobbler wandered and the magistrate dismissed charges with a smile.

Gen. Hugh S. Johnson calls for eliminating at least 90 percent of war profits and for wartime price fixing to prewar levels. He would grant the President authority to set prices and impose a federal tax of 90 percent on any increase in war profits. He cites Baruch as behind price fixation and says passage is likely this session.
In Jackson Tennessee a livestock truck crashed into a school bus nine miles south of the city. Two children were critically hurt and 35 others suffered minor injuries as both vehicles plunged down a 15 foot embankment. Body details include a broken jaw and a leg amputation for Carroll Fricks among the injured.
