A violent clash at an Alabama state prison led to the suspension of certain privileges for inmates. authorities moved to restore order and review security procedures after the incident.
A 500 inmate uprising at Kilby Prison in Montgomery Alabama last night led to gunfire tear gas and wrecked corridors. Warden Shirley ordered tightened visitor controls and searched all visitors as guards used shotguns and tear bombs. Eleven prisoners were injured and ten men were placed in solitary confinement for investigation.
The Charley Rouss Fire Company received a Seagrave motor truck built in Columbus Ohio. It arrived by railroad and will be tested locally this week with fire insurance underwriters present. The truck features a 130 horsepower engine, 1 300 gpm pump, 1 200 ft hose capacity and an 80 gallon water tank. It is the costliest fire vehicle in the city and financed entirely by the Rouss Company.
The Robert Y. Conrad Post of the American Legion will hold a smoker at its building tonight at 8 30. All persons eligible for membership are invited to attend.
Through the anthracite operators conference the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Coal Company cut egg coal from 8.75 to 8.25 per ton stove coal from 9.25 to 8.75 chestnut from 8.75 to 8.25 with April effect. Prices will rise 25 cents on June 1 and another 25 cents on September 1 signaling a shift from prior spring reductions.
In Alexandria on March 14 Louis Boersig, 44, Arlington? man, is charged with a second murder linked to the March 4 Ridgeway family attack in Fairfax. Catherine Ridgeway died after brain surgery and Loretta Ridgeway and her mother remain hospitalized. the victim’s father and other details follow as authorities prepare a Fairfax grand jury for March 21.
Mrs. Boersig and her three children visited the husband and father for the first time since incarceration. The meeting was brief and lacked new details, but the family plan and a later visit provided comfort. Attorney Flynn of Alexandria accompanied the wife for counsel and a private discussion occurred with the prisoner. Fingerprint experts and Fairfax county officers attended showing ongoing case activity.

Mrs Samuel Claiborne Hatcher wife of Randolph Macon College vice president dies at her Ashland Virginia home Sunday night. Born Mary Louise Kern she married the Reverend Hatcher in 1895 and was active in student welfare during influenza year 1918. Survived by husband four children two brothers a sister and a host of community affiliations. Funeral from Duncan Memorial Methodist Church Ashland Tuesday at 1 30 led by Rev Dr George F Booker with honorary pallbearers from Richmond ministers and Randolph-Macon College faculty. Interment Blandford Cemetery Petersburg.
The Woman's Auxiliary of the American Legion will hold its regular monthly meeting at 8 o'clock this Monday evening at Mrs. W. A. Bakers home. All members are requested to attend.

The body of Sergeant James B. Montague of the United States Marine Corps was found in the Whampoa river near Shanghai. Police believe foul play caused his death. Montague, a Virginia native, arrived with forces from San Diego aboard the Chaumont.
The Girls' Athletic Association presents a revue at the Empire Theatre on Tuesday March 15. Led by Mrs Frank Reynolds and Mia Claire Dotterer, the show features singing and a novel prologue. The revival aims to surpass last winter's minstrel success with expert staging and artistic acts.
Princess Pearl Norris of Asbury Park died at Princeton Hospital from injuries after an automobile crash. Robert Caldwell denied the charge of manslaughter while James Guenther, driver of the other car, was said to be speeding. Caldwell was taken into university custody on the manslaughter allegation.
US Senator William H. King of Utah sails toward Santo Domingo hoping to reach Haiti where officials say he is undesirable and will not be admitted. Haitian government earlier barred his landing citing prior discussions with Haitian opposition leader Percival Thoby.
