Chrysler labor dispute escalates as production demands grow. General Motors lags in orders while capacity expansion is urged for the next four months to meet anticipated demand.
Detroit bulletin reports Circuit Judge Allan Campbell postponed his ruling on the Chrysler Corporation petition for an injunction ordering striking workers to evacuate the plants. The decision is rescheduled for Monday morning.
AP reports Chrysler and United Automobile Workers clash over exclusive bargaining rights as 60 000 idle workers and 5 000 sit-down strikers contest injunctions aimed at removing strikers from eight Detroit plants. Hudson and Reo also affected with 12 200 workers idled. Michigan Gov. Murphy condemns broader industrial conflict.
MA Winchester notes sunspots draw substantial attention and publicity. An article in the Star discusses larger sunspots and theories on their cause and effect. An old-timer warned 1937 could be a disaster year, with floods and storms possibly record-breaking, urging sunspots to find cover.

Beginning April 15 the city adopts a three division refuse system with separate containers for garbage and ashes. Garbage must be in metal cans from five to twenty four gallons and may be collected by farmers raising swine. ashes require metal containers and should not be filled to the top.

Baltimore on March 13 reports a sit-down strike at Roberts Dress Shop entering its third day with about 30 women occupying beach chairs inside a closed plant that normally employs 175. The workers protest non union shops and have been supplied lounge chairs and bedding by the union. Louis Greenbaum, a plant official, stays during the day but leaves the building at 5 pm.
A large crowd attended the Handley Band concert at Handley Auditorium directed by Prof. W. H. Messinee to raise funds for new uniforms for the boys. Numbers included Chicago Worlds Fair March and Grieg's Ase's Death, followed by a comedy skit featuring John and other boys.

Salisbury Maryland March 13 coroner s jury returns verdict that Mrs Jeannette B Trader died from peritonitis caused by abdominal adhesions after prior surgeries. Jury heard doctors say earlier operation might have saved her. autopsy found no poison traces.
The Shenandoah District Virginia Cooperative Education Association Senior division will hold its annual meeting in Woodstock on April 2 at the Christian Church. C. W. Sollenberger will preside and C. V Shoemaker will welcome delegates with a response by Col. Carroll Menefee.
Helen Wills Love, jailed for murder of her supposed husband Harry A. Love, remains in a self imposed coma after 36 hours. Doctors call it an affected coma, with normal vital signs yet no arousal possible. Jail officials report no change in her condition as she lies in a white regulation gown on her cot.

Cumberland reports Sheriff George E. Kemp plans to lash Gilbert Crabtree with ten lashes for beating his wife. Crabtree, a WPA worker, faces ten lashes and three months in the house of correction, with a ten day appeal window. The sentence may be delayed and will be carried out in the county jail basement after medical clearance.
National Grange leaders voice opposition to enlarging the Supreme Court and urge separate bills or constitutional amendment. Louis J. Taber announces the stance, reflecting state Grange masters and a broad audience in the nation's agricultural organization.

At a special Board of Supervisors meeting this morning a resolution passed transferring all county funds and property from R. S. Smith’s county account to Harry L. McCann’s. The measure directs notices to local banks and authorizes withdrawals by D. E. Rice as deputy treasurer. The late R. S. Smith’s $50,000 bond was transferred to McCann by the National Surety Company.
At City Hall last night twenty five Winchester merchants organized the Retail Merchants Division of the Chamber of Commerce. They set six one day holidays for the year including July 4 Labor Day Armistice Day Thanksgiving Christmas and New Year’s Day. Officers elected B H Hamman president Earl Crowser vice president Andrew Bell secretary. Stores to close from June 14 until Labor Day.
Seven defendants from Winchester and Frederick County named in a Danville grand jury indictment may go on trial in Harrisonburg during the federal court term opening Monday. The defendants include Dr Walter D Myers and William E Cooper of W E Cooper and Son grocery, Otis L Bennett, Andrew Hawkins, Rufus Hawkins, Loring Crowser, and Walker G Havermale. The indictment alleges purchases of supplies for illegal liquor and Cooper failed to report sales as required by law. Cooper says he regrets the summons and asserts he has never violated any law.
D. A. McIntyre guided a nitroglycerin cargo plane to a forced landing at Fort Warren Military Reservation after losing Cheyenne Airport in a severe snowstorm. The pilot flew from Tulsa to shoot an oil well near Cheyenne as snow blankets the region from Wyoming to the dust bowl of Kansas and Colorado. Meanwhile a Kansas snowstorm improves wheat prospects in Liberal, lowering drought concerns.
Senator Pittman urged a permanent, unconditional increase to fifteen justices, arguing it would bring fresh perspectives, ease disputes over policy, and allow all briefs to be read. He said his proposal aligns with the President's plan and a constitutional amendment, signaling a joint approach.
Starting at 9 o clock Monday morning 1937 automobile licenses will go on sale in Winchester at the chamber of commerce on Rouss avenue. Truck owners as common carriers must obtain a permit from the State Corporation Commission and present it with their license application. All car owners must bring their registration cards when applying.
