Richmond reports show the 82 million appropriation bill would exceed general fund revenues by about 435 thousand dollars. The deficit stems from a 125 thousand dollar dormitory appropriation for Staunton and other adds. Liquor profit prospects remain uncertain as a 500 thousand dollar revenue plan was trimmed by 100 thousand in a House amendment. The year end deficit is projected near two million dollars despite policy stays.

Local man fatally struck near Gainesboro by car driven by resident
Harrison Diehl 54 died after midnight when he stepped into the road and was hit by a car driven by William Brown. Brown reported the accident to police, and Capt. Boyd and Officer Plank returned to the scene with Brown. Diehl sustained a skull fracture and a broken left leg and was pronounced dead by Dr. C. R. Anderson. Diehl, a World War veteran, had lived alone south of Sunnyside since 1929. He leaves a sister Mrs Greenwalt and other relatives nearby. no inquest was held.
