naval experts from the United States Great Britain and France meet at St James Palace to seek a solution to the disarmament crisis sparked by French tonnage demands. The impasse persists as US and UK refuse a security pact in exchange for reduced French naval buildup.
Washington March 12 supporters of the eighteenth amendment told the House judiciary committee that womanhood across America stands behind dry statutes and will oppose repeal. Mrs Henry W Peabody led witnesses including Vic Donahey Orrin Judd Jesse Nicholson and John Sippel who urged a workable solution and cited Henry Ford and Thomas Edison in backing continued prohibition.
Chairman Wood of the House appropriations committee said Florida fruit fly eradication destroyed about 60 million dollars in property and another six million dollars spent. He cited practical estimates of 1.5 million for the work and accused bugologists of causing more harm than the pests. The remarks followed a Florida investigation by his committee.

City Council ordinance requires motorists to stop before crossing or entering the intersections of Boscawen and Loudoun streets and Cork and Loudoun streets. Signs were installed yesterday and police have warned drivers to obey. Passing Loudoun street without stopping risks an accident and being at fault.

In four months the corps aided 87 transients with meals and 35 beds, distributed groceries and clothing, found work for 47, visited 567 families, and held meetings that uplifted many. Shenandoah Valley Inc launches its annual subscription drive starting in Winchester with Col H J Benchoff and J I Johnson in charge. After Winchester, Woodstock New Market Harrisonburg Staunton Waynesboro Lexington and Roanoke will be solicited. Requests for 50 circulars came from Florida and inquiries arrive from northern and western cities as radio ads continue on KDKA Pittsburgh and other stations.
Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Richmond Virginia has extended a unanimous call to Rev. Frank T. McFaden D D to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Rev W L Lawrence last November McFaden now serves at Winchester and earlier led First Presbyterian Richmond for about 20 years He was recently elected grand master of Masons in Virginia and the church congregation numbers about 300 members
Dr. McFaden said the call from Overbrook Presbyterian Church of Richmond had not reached him officially and he would not comment. He is currently leading evangelistic services at Loudoun Street Presbyterian Church in Winchester with strong local attendance as he continues to decline multiple church calls since becoming pastor here.
Director-General Richards announced receipt of word from Augusta Military Academy Fort Oedinance Virginia that the A M A band will enter the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival parade. The band is a familiar festival presence with many promising musicians and high grade selections.
Joseph S. Denny introduced a bill to place a tablet in the State Capitol in Richmond honoring General Robert E. Lee. The measure passed both houses. It authorizes Governor Pollard to solicit subscriptions and contract a sculptor to erect the tablet and carry out all necessary steps.

Frederick county acting clerk Julian W. Baker received notice that Virginia has passed an emergency law repealing bounties on predatory birds and animals. The measure eliminates payments for hawks owls crows weasels and similar species, end bootlegging across the state line, and preserves bounties only for bobcat scalps in the region.
Special to The Star from Millwood Virginia reports the fourth hunt of the Golden Bridge Hunt Club of New York and the Blue Ridge Hunt Club of Millwood held at the Springsbury estate. The meet drew large crowds as hounds, huntsmen and riders gathered at 10 30 this morning and a big field is expected for Saturday.

The Covenanter Boys of Highland Avenue will sing again, following a large turnout and growing interest as the pastor expounds John 3 16 on the love of God and its conditions for acceptance. Fire of undetermined origin, the third on the New Orleans waterfront in three weeks, destroyed 400 to 500 bales of cotton at a City Dock Board warehouse. Firemen closed partition doors to curb flames while police opened an incendiary probe. The earlier blaze on the Chasbonnet wharves damaged a steamship and caused six deaths.
A spokesman for the Virginia Home Players Orchestra said the group appeared on two Mount Vernon Hills programs for the Winchester Chamber of Commerce on February 22 and March 1. He rejected claims of a performance at the Earl Theatre in Washington as incorrect.
Mahatma Gandhi and 79 disciples began the first lap of a 20 day march from Ahmadabad to Jalalburg to launch a civil disobedience campaign for Indian independence. About 20,000 watched as many followers turned back. The government in Bombay says the action is viewed as an all India matter with two British infantry units deployed in Ahmadabad.
Clarence Stine was held in Detroit as a fugitive from Hagerstown Md. on kidnapping charges for Maverina Keiffer 21. He is also sought by federal authorities on Mann Act charges. His arrest followed the death of the girl at Providence Hospital. She left a day-old daughter. The complainants are the girl's parents.
Staunton cadets and band schedule their annual encampment May 23 to 30 at Rouss Spring land. City officials plan to meet with Commandant Russell to confirm arrangements ensuring cadets comfort, with prior letters promising city support and free transport if needed.
