The United Brethren Church at Pleasant Valley, in this county, suffered severe damage from strong winds Saturday night and Sunday. The Virginia General Assembly approved the prohibition bill late Saturday night after a conference report set the prohibition commissioner’s two year pay at 50 000 each year. The measure was altered to ease harshness with votes split and debate long.

If a bid is accepted the venue would reopen soon for motion pictures and road shows. Democratic members aim to finish the lease quickly to attend a mass convention at the Court House hall nominating candidates for the June election.

President Wilson sent to the Senate nominations for Richard Evelyn Byrd of Winchester as U S attorney for the western district of Virginia and Richard M. Mann of Petersburg for the eastern district. Thomas G. Burch of Martinsville and John G. Janener of Richmond named as U S marshals for western and eastern districts respectively.
A German force of about 60 aeroplanes crossed into France and bombed Paris suburbs. Some planes were shot down or driven off. one crew captured. Secretary Baker witnessed the aerial battle as Paris endured one of the largest raids against the city or London. The prior weekend raid left 12 dead and 60 injured.

Mrs. Ann Lavinia Sampsell wife of Asbury Sampsell died at 112 West Clifford Street after a three week illness. Funeral services planned with Rev F M Richardson of Dock Street Methodist Episcopal Church South. Interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery. She leaves a large Hoover family network and several siblings and a niece Miss Marguerite Hoover living with the family.
General Crowder stated no date has been set for the second increment of the draft though preparations are under way. The next draft will be issued in small units and assigned to cantonments by quotas including colored divisions. specifics on cantonment destinations were not revealed.

Mrs Oved F Chandler aged 82 years died Sunday at her home in burg Virginia after a year long illness. She was formerly Martha Hinking daughter of the late Mr Hinkins a Strasburg resident. Survived by husband three sons Frank John Charles Chandler of Strasburg a daughter Mrs Agy Orisman. Funeral services held at Exymanuel Lutheran church in Strasburg.
