Fire at Montana Hall stable kills eighteen horses
Disastrous early morning blaze at Abram J. Hewitt's Montana Hall stables near Millwood Virginia destroys three buildings and $30,000 to $40,000 in feed while claiming eighteen horses and two barns. Twenty one thoroughbred brood mares with foals were reported missing or unaccounted for, and eight horses were saved from the training barn as Berryville volunteers battled the fire discovered about 2 30 a.m. Insurance covered buildings but not the horses.

Berryville Va March 11 J Raymond Levi accused in a federal warrant of failing to file a 1936 income tax return of 86758 declined to comment when asked by the Star. He said he will appear in Richmond March 19 for a preliminary hearing before a U S Commissioner. Another local man signed bond to free Levi pending case outcome.
