Residents recall a harsh winter storm of the 1930s with March 6 as a key date. A Monmouth Street resident shoveled space for a car then left, returning to a blocked parking spot. Firemen aided by a passerby and townsfolk, including tractor crews, kept roads open and supplied residents with fuel and food as outages persisted.
Dick Chapman of Berryville was last seen mid last week and blocked by heavy snowdrifts. He then fell ill with flu but this morning called friend Bob Smalley who traveled Rt. 7 to the road entrance and picked him up after he waded through five minutes of drifting snow.
President Eisenhower returns from a 15 500 mile Latin American swing including Brazil Argentina Chile and Uruguay to prepare a radio TV report from Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington He is rested from Dorado Beach and plans a 15 minute address at 7 p m EST carried by major networks.

In Munich a U S Army inquiry examines claims that Col E K Juergens took his 11 year old son Richard on an official inspection. The boy wore a lieutenant's uniform and mocked a GI, prompting calls of mockery and disgrace. Juergens apologized after the incident on February 26.
Richmond AP report notes a Senate Education Committee public hearing at 2 p.m. on the Thomson bill to delay local pupil assignment for two years amid school integration debates. The bill, supported by massive resistance advocates, would shift authority to a three member state board and follows the governor’s freedom of choice program. The Legislature’s final 60-day session week also includes a driving bill in the Senate Courts of Justice Committee.
Snow drifts 4 to 12 feet deep hinder secondary roads as Frederick County schools stay closed. Supt Ayler says reopen planned Thursday morning. The United States will deploy an automatic bomb alarm system that activates from the flash of a nuclear blast.
