Sam Shafer a Clarke County resident died at Memorial Hospital after his car overturned on Bowles Hill along the Front Royal road south of town. Orndorff sustaining injuries. Haldeman aided, Shafer buried at Carpers Valley with funeral at 1:30 pm.
The Red Cross chairman announced a $29.68 donation from Southern Dairies raised via product coupons. R. W. Kenner, Winchester plant sales manager, said over $3,000 is being distributed across the South for relief of unemployed workers and their families, through this two month old program.
Lawrence S. Sibert, long associated with the People's Life Insurance Co of Washington, announces his appointment as field manager in Virginia for Our Home Life Insurance Co of Washington and will establish temporary headquarters in the area.
Fire ripped through the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad bridge under construction over the Potomac at Harpers Ferry causing up to 250000 dollars in damage. Nine firefighters were hurt including Fire Captain Clarence C. Perks and Fillmore Davis of Charles Town. The blaze began when creosoted cross ties and guard rails burned, weakening steel spans and delaying April 15 railroad reopening.
The Stephens City Farmers' Union will meet in regular monthly session at 8 oclock this evening in the People's Bank building and urges full attendance. Members must submit orders for spring fertilizer and seeds at this meeting. Also notes Sealock sale on Hunter Stine farm, one mile north of Winchester, March 12 at 10 am featuring good stock and machinery.

Adrian D. Hardesty age 77 of Clarke County was fatally kicked in the chest by a mule at the Meadow Brook farm near Berryville. The incident occurred around 5 PM in the barn as he attended to work. his son Webster R. Hardesty and a barn worker witnessed from the doorway. Dr. A. P. Osborne pronounced him dead. He leaves a widow Eugenia Hardesty, son Webster, daughter Mrs. C. K. Foley, sister Mrs. Clarence Eby, and four grandchildren. Burial followed at Greentill Cemetery after services by Rev. L. A. Parker at the Baptist Church. Pallbearers: six nephews.
Wilbert Rogers George Elyett Walter Elyett and a young woman known as Martha were arrested by Sheriff Pannett and tried before Tavenner in Winchester. They were charged with assaulting H O Gilland at his home near Dehaven last Saturday night. Rogers received sixty days in jail, Elyett thirty days (suspended if he works), Walter Elyett sent to the State Farm for medical treatment, and Martha sent to the farm for medical treatment. The fight began at Gilland's home and ended with Gilland severely beaten.
Gov. I. C. Blackwood selects Louise Bryson of Columbia to be South Carolina’s state princess for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester this spring. Nelson F. Richards, festival director-general, said governors of 25 eastern states were asked to appoint princesses. Myer Hamburger of Hamburger's Specialty Shop returned from New York with spring goods for his store.

President Hoover accepted Alexander Legge’s resignation as chairman of the Federal Farm Board and appointed James Cy. Stone of Kentucky to succeed him. Legge will return to private business as the board continues to function amid controversy and a slow return of farm-market improvements.

The Handley High School faculty staged a successful farce It Pays to Advertise drawing a large audience. Notable performances included Mr Silas Martin by Mr Stickel and Rod ney Martin by Mr Joyce with strong supporting turns. A Sandwich Men s Chorus tap dance added charm and the box office receipts pleased organizers.
Johnnie Hausenfluck aged about 8 years son of Simeon and Phoebe Hausenfluck died after about eight weeks of illness with rheumatism and bronchial pneumonia. He bore it patiently and passed peacefully. He leaves his parents two brothers Alva and Henry and two sisters Elizabeth and Mitgene.

The Berryville High School School League presented the home talent play Some Little Fixer in the packed High School Auditorium. The three working girls and four young men shared apartments in a mid western setting while a visiting engineer from Africa sparks a comic mix up before a bright, successful finale.
The Salvation Army kitchen served 93 meals to the worthy poor. Employment was found for a woman near Stephens City. Sheriff Pannett brought five people to breakfast. Local donors included Lee Baking Company and B. and C. Baking Company with bread and pies. The White Hall Mite Society provided apple butter and meals and other groups contributed foods and funds.
Mrs. James Anderson of 19 West Cork street received word that her grandson William Stilley 13 died in Portsmouth Virginia from injuries after a fall while roller skating. He struck his head and developed paralysis, dying at 3 am. He was son of Mr and Mrs William Stilley and survived by three brothers and two sisters. His mother was formerly Mildred Anderson. The body will be brought to Winchester likely Monday for funeral Tuesday at Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Figures named include Senator Glass, Senator Byrd, Governor Hardman, Governor Richie, Governor Horton, Governor Larson, Governor Wilson, and Governor Seligman.
