The Common Council heard a large delegation from the Law Enforcement League urging stricter liquor law enforcement. They pledged cooperation and support for city action, while debates over funding, fines, and a possible transfer of liquor fines to the city treasury continued.
Mr. Allen Maphis of this city was in his Ford on the Valley pike two miles north of Harrisonburg when the car burst into flames. He escaped unharmed after jumping from the vehicle and seeking assistance at nearby homes. The chassis alone remained. seven gallons of gas burned away with the surrounding woodwork. Insurance coverage is reported.

Grandchildren Elizabeth Van Dyke Ford Blesmer Joline Shepard and George Shepard receive lease proceeds from Robert Clevenger orchard. Benjamin P Ford gets Fries orchard lease. Executors named are Mrs Ford and Clarence Ford with bond $2000.
Rev Adil A Kelly of the Lutheran Church has qualified to perform marriages in the state. An order from Frederick County Circuit Court authorized the minister to perform rites, and Kelly has executed the required $600 bond.
The county electoral board reappointment for the term ending February 1 1981 was ordered by the Frederick Circuit Court to correct an omission. H C Light is appointed to fill the term ending February 1 1921 after qualifying for office.
Robert L. Miller James Watson and J W Riely named by Circuit Court as members of the Frederick county board of review Their term began February 1 and they have qualified by oath and assume duties.
Governor Davis, newly initiated by Winchester Lodge No 867, will be principal speaker at tonight’s entertainment hosted by Richmond M Lodge No 46. Extensive preparations are under way. Edward F. Lawler of Norfolk, district deputy grand exalted ruler of Eastern Virginia, will make an official visit to the judge.
The city chief of police seized a sack of Hayner brand liquor dropped by an unknown man near an abandoned house on Main Street. A businessman saw the suspect enter the rear yard and deposit the bottles in an open window before the police arrived within ten minutes. The liquor was taken to City Hall for safekeeping. Authorities seek to identify the individual involved.
Dance event Saturday night at 7 30 in Friendship Hall to raise funds for a company truck. Proceeds go to support transportation needs and community aid.
Frederick county club girls are reminded of the big Canning Club rally to be held in the court room at City Hall in Chester on Saturday March ?. A roll call will be taken of enrolled members and many new members are expected. Eligible girls may join through the county home. Cooperate to make the first rally a success.

Dudley O. Massie qualified in the Frederick County Circuit Court as guardian for the three infant Massie children Francis Harry and John after the deaths of Harry B. Massie and Ada Massie in the influenza outbreak. Massie posted a 3000 bond. an insurance policy of 1000 to the widow Ida Massie passed to the children after both parents died. Three Young graduate nurses from the Nurses Training School of Winchester Memorial Hospital received diplomas at last night’s graduation in the Handley Library auditorium. Speakers included Dr. Heister H. McGuire and Major B. M. Roswell.
Residents along about three fourths of a mile of Woodcock Lane near the North Western pike applied to the county board to take over the road. They waived damages rights. The board approved the request and has taken over the road section to operate as a county road with alterations as needed.
