William Jobe a longtime Brucetown resident and land assessor for Frederick County dies after a four year illness. He led Brucetown Woolen Mills and remained active in Democratic politics. Funeral at Brucetown Methodist Church tomorrow at 2 PM.
Win chester resident Gray Williams has been named by Governor Pollard to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors for a four year term from February 28, 1932 to February 28, 1936. He has long served on the university Alumni Board of Trustees, which manages donated funds and allocates income for university development. The board, led by Frederic W. Scott, must also appoint a permanent president following Dr Edwin A. Alderman’s death and Dr John Lloyd Newcomb’s interim leadership.
Miss Virginia Wilmot Roberdeau of Austin is named by Governor R. S. Sterling as the first Texas princess to join Queen Shenandoah IX’s court for the Ninth Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. The Texas selection heads a list of nominees as officials expect more governors to name princesses. A mass meeting in the George Washington Hotel on Thursday plans festival details and broad support from railroads, industry, and civic groups.
The Board of Health ordered closure of the long used dump hole at Admiral Byrd Airport southeast of Winchester with new signs at entrances. A nearby dump half a mile west was linked to Rouss Spring contamination by seepage, prompting officials to act to protect the city water supply.
Alfred E. Smith approved use of his name by Massachusetts Democratic delegates. His letter to Frank J. Donahue grants power of attorney to file the assent with state officials. The move enables a slate pledged to Smith to enter the Massachusetts delegate race.

POCAHONTAS VA March 1 Rescue workers search underground passages of the Boissevain mine for nine miners missing after Saturday's explosion. Progress hampered by slate piles and splintered timbers. Nearly all blast area has been scanned to recover 29 of 38 victims. a second sweep of shattered rooms followed. The burned bodies indicate instant deaths.
Weather Bureau warns of a wide and intense storm moving north northeast from about 300 miles southeast of Cape Cod. Strong northwest winds reach Cape Hatteras with gale conditions north of Sandy Hook, easing tonight. Mariners advised to heed small craft warnings along the coast from Eastport Maine to Sandy Hook New Jersey.
The official board of Market Street Methodist Episcopal Church will meet immediately after the mid week prayer service tomorrow evening. The prayer service begins at 8 o clock. Reverend Wallace M Brashears announced the meeting.
Charles Burch, an elderly Tulsa man, died at Winchester Memorial Hospital after being found on the streets about a month earlier. He claimed a wife, Mrs. Pearl Burch, in Tulsa. Hospital staff sought to notify her, but efforts were unsuccessful by noon. The body remained in the hospital morgue awaiting contact.

Marriage date February 2 unspecified year. custody given to Mrs Anderson with visitation rights for the father. Anderson to pay all costs including a $100 lawyer fee. Six month non remarriage period imposed on both parties.
Judge Philip Williams grants Louise Rudolph a divorce from Hugh Grant Rudolph on desertion. They wed August 4 1925. he left January 31 1928. Baby Rose Marie to live with mother. husband to pay $10 monthly for child support and education plus all court costs including $35 attorney fee.
Richmond February 29 The Senate finance committee completed its budget bill with drastic changes including distribution of the school equalization fund to counties by school population for real estate tax relief. The fund totals 500000 first year and 1000000 second year. Rockingham county would receive 7445 while cities receive none. Various department funds and salaries were adjusted with restorations and cuts, including the dry prosecutors and tax, game and public works allocations.
Dr Matthew Page Andrews of Baltimore joins Dr Lyon Gardiner Tyler in criticizing David S Muzzey's History of the American People. Andrews calls the text unsatisfactory and biased against the South, arguing it ignores Northern nullification and secession, and questions its fairness to Southern principles.

The Winchester Debating Society will argue the question Resolved that the capital punishment law should be repealed in Virginia at Round Hill school house tomorrow at 7 30. Howard and Ford Luttrell will take the affirmative while Arthur and Ernest Luttrell are the negative. Refreshments and intermission music accompany the speeches. A second debate is set for Friday evening March 4 at Armel school house at 7 30. The question Resolved that privilege and opportunity afford a greater asset for good than beauty and obligation. Ford Howard and J D Luttrell for the affirmative with Arthur Ernest and J K Luttrell for the negative.
