Lewis H. Brewer of the county was jailed on a charge of breaking into Clarence Pingley’s garage at the Martinsburg pike and Welltown road. A preliminary hearing before Justice Tavenner remanded him in default of $2,000 bail as grand jury convenes in April. Four Burned To Death In Flimsy House Fire
In Hibbing Minnesota on March 1 five people including four children and a 70 year old grandfather died in a blaze at Samuel Basford’s farm home. Fire, started by an overheated stove, consumed the cardboard interior and tar paper exterior. Mrs Basford escaped but was seriously burned as she fled. Firefighters and Basford’s frantic attempts to reach the children were thwarted by flames.
