President Nixon signed an executive order extending price controls to fresh vegetables and seafood for the first time after the first sale, applying at wholesale and retail levels. Processed meats remain under controls. officials say the move aims to curb markups though it may not lower prices immediately.
National Weather Service posts flash flood watches across most of Virginia while recovery from Tropical Storm Agnes continues. Water restrictions ease in Richmond as purification plants restart with outside help and officials report ongoing flood damage estimated up to 250 million dollars.
With additional rain and flash flood watches, Winchester and Frederick County residents face ongoing cleanup after last week's storm. The Frederick County Board of Supervisors approved a four percent utility tax with no ceiling, to apply to electricity gas and phone bills, effective July 1. The panel also rezoned 82.18 acres southeast of Stephens City for Brumback Heirs Inc to support a $17 million mixed use subdivision expected to add about $120,000 annual tax revenue. Dennis Cole opposed both measures citing impact on fixed incomes.
Richmond area forecasts show a gradual weather improvement tonight and Friday as drier air filters in from the west and south.
