President Truman vetoed the extension bill to sustain price and wage controls, stating it would be impossible to administer and would fuel inflation. The House, which passed the measure, planned a quick vote to decide on overriding the veto as OPA faced its deadline at midnight Sunday.

Muriel Hubbard Rockefeller plans to appeal a Connecticut court ruling granting custody of two adopted children to Fowler McCormick Chicago heir.

Pollock has been with the station since its opening and previously worked for CBS on the West Coast and in New York City. He has been active in church and civic affairs in Winchester.
A Virginia commission approved a list of 20 fertilizers to be sold starting January 1, 1947. The act requires an approved list of 15 to 25 grades, with nitrogen and phosphate percentages shown. Notable grades include 5-10-5, 6-8-6, 7-7-7, 10-10-10, and tobacco specific 3-9-6 3-8-5 2-10-6. 4-9-3 targets tobacco beds.
Richmond June 29 Delegate E Blackburn Moore Berryville father of Virginia’s new pollution law and a member of the state water control board said today he would suggest the board hold its organization meeting in Richmond during the week of July 8 They aim to organize quickly to transfer funds set general policies and seek a full time executive director Moore piloted the bill through the General Assembly and expressed confidence the public would be satisfied with the board’s work Virginia’s first strong pollution law seeks to guide and regulate industrial emissions with examples from other states The governor’s five appointees include Ross H Walker T Brady Saunders R A West and Thomas M Thornhill with Moore as a member of the board
The Shenandoah County Council of Churches will hear Rev Dr Ronald S Wilson of Winchester Presbyterian Church speak tomorrow night at 8 at Woodstock Methodist Church. The meeting will also report on the councils work of the past year and include officers election.

In Jerusalem on June 29 British authorities ordered a wide crackdown in Palestine to root out terrorism. Troops occupied the Jewish Agency Headquarters and imposed curfews across large areas as many executive members of the Jewish Agency were arrested. Simultaneous searches occurred in Tel Aviv and seven other Jewish communities. Sir Alan Cunningham announced the actions amid the broader security sweep.
