War veterans from across the nation gather in a welcoming village for the seventy fifth anniversary of the Battle of Gett ysburg. Old soldiers arrive by train and bus, dine in mess tents, and reflect on unity as they camp for a week. Sampson Simpson, 94, former Confederate commander, joins Union veterans in a sunlit reunion.
The Frederick county 4-H Clubs plan a five day camp with outdoor living and activities including wildlife study and leather work. George W. Dellinger, a Confederate veteran from this area, departs for Gettysburg tomorrow and is wished Bon Voyage.

George W. Dellinger a North Carolina born 1830s veteran plans a trip from Winchester to Gettysburg for the million dollar commemoration of the Civil War battle. He will be accompanied by his son L K Dellinger and reach the scene with memories of many fields he crossed in 1863 to 1865. He serves in Imboden’s Brigade and recalls encounters at Winchester Cedar Creek New Market and Antietam among others. He last joined a reunion in 1936 at Antietam and previously stated that the Yankees starved their forces. The return trip to Winchester will follow the events at Gettysburg with his daughter Mrs Charles Pritts in White Post hosting earlier.

Rome reports the halt of air raids on British merchant vessels in Spanish waters was a possible result of talks between Earl of Perth and Count Ciano. British renunciation of the still inoperative friendship pact with Italy could be the price for continuation of the raids. Mussonlini seeks to enforce a pact without delay.
Mrs Lula Dove Whetzel reports her daughter Mrs Wanda Whetzel May died by hanging in a barn on Richard H. McAfee’s farm near Berryville Virginia. Clarke county authorities ruled death a suicide after investigation.

Board to start July 1 during transition period ahead of a new relief act and old age pensions taking full effect in September.

In Wilmington Delaware an anonymous call led police to the battered body of Mrs Cartha Whorphof 59 an elderly housekeeper. Detective Captain James Riley said officers were questioning John E Seemans who had employed her for 12 years. Deputy Coroner James Mulligan said death from a complicated skull fracture with broken nose and upper jaw occurred between 1 and 4 am. Police traced the call received about 5 30 am a neighbor said she left yesterday afternoon saying she was going to a party.
The Friendship Fire Company team practiced in 29 seconds and expects a strong showing in the August 12 13 state races at Luray Virginia. They plan a yard party at John Kerr school grounds Friday and Saturday to raise money for uniforms.
Paris report says Suzanne Lenglen, once the world’s leading woman player, received a blood transfusion to combat pernicious anemia left her in a serious condition. Her physician hopes for recovery though no change followed the transfusion. Lenglen has been ill ten days.
