Reports from Washington indicate that supply and demand laws are lowering food prices as farmers harvest record Potatoes and onions. Storage warehouses in the Midwest are full, forcing government plans to empty stores and stabilize costs.
Ohio House of Delegates member Clyde Hy Hooley from Champaign county toured the Shenandoah Valley passing through Winchester and praised the scenery from Martinsburg to Middletown on his way to John Pickeral’s country home. He wrote from Cable, Ohio expressing delight with the trip. Friendship Fire Co members are asked to meet tonight at 8 for final Hagerstown arrangements.
Minority stockholders of the Headley Chocolate Company of Baltimore win to recover 230580 from former directors for payments to Henry W. Matthews and Frank C Headley. Judge Duffy presides in Circuit Court No 2. The sum covers 16000 and 6000 paid for services in 1910 plus interest.
Private Charles S. Grove of the infantry receives orders from Capt Dorsey Cullen Roanoke to close the Winchester recruiting station Saturday and to open a new station in Harrisonburg Sunday morning, as many young men await enlistment and applications will be processed promptly.
At Baltimore wholesale markets this afternoon spot wheat stood at 2.20 and corn at 1.52. Local dealers offered 2.00 for wheat after market close in Baltimore.

On petition of Glaize and Brother, Judge F. B. Whiting in Winchester Corporation Court appoints Edward McCartney as a special policeman at the Glaize and Brother lumber yards in east Winchester. He may carry a gun only on duty and on the premises, with authority limited to protecting the Glaize property.
By agreement of counsel a detinue warrant in a case to recover a bull, claimed as the property of J D Ginn and held unlawfully by Ernest B Kitchen, has been removed from the county magistrate court to the Frederick County Circuit Court. Judge Frank B Whiting will hear the matter on July 3. The case was set for a Saturday appearance before Justice A J Tavenner.
W. Taylor Wall appeals the $10 fine and costs imposed by Justice Tavenner in Welltown Bate toll case. The appeal goes to the Circuit Court and will be docketed for Judge Frank B. Whiting to hear.
H H Baker offers to buy old potatoes at top prices and promotes profitable sowing of soy beans and cow peas until July 15 with later varieties possible. Also advertised is ground limestone at low prices for thirty days only, with a note about specific days.

Col C L Hawkins and Sheriff Luther Pannett will travel to Charlottesville Virginia to attend sessions of the United States Court as witnesses in cases of alleged slackers arrested in Frederick County.
Treasurer William T. Barrara announces new contributions including Thomas Cover Sr and Elsie Maphis with amounts totaling 101.75 dollars. The Little Mountain Meeting House Sunday School adds 75 cents, bringing the total to 101.75.
Hunter Brown of Gainesboro pleaded guilty to speeding near Gore last Sunday. He appeared before Justice Tavenner and paid a fine of 10 dollars plus costs totaling 12.25 dollars.
Rear Admiral Albert Gleaves in charge of the American naval forces that convoyed Pershing's troops to France cabled a full report to Secretary Daniels after the troop voyage. The Navy Department prohibits publishing the report at this time. Gleaves is a well known figure in Winchester where he and Mrs. Gleaves and their daughters have often visited in recent years.
The county clerk issued licenses to Reuben L. Long 23 and Miss Mary Hulver 21 of the county. Long is son of Charles A. Long, Hulver daughter of George Hulver. Another license went to Luther G. Herbaugh 21 son of Samuel Herbaugh and Lena May Hartley 20 daughter of John W. Hartley. All parties reside in the county.
Wheat crops look unusually heavy with acreage above normal in Frederick County. Farmers anticipate finishing this week as yields per acre exceed averages.
Funeral services for Mrs. John C. Coe were held at her home near Winchester then moved to Mount Hebron Cemetery in this city. The Sacred Heart Church was represented by Rev Father John McVerry who conducted the rites. Pallbearers included M M Lynch J D O Connell DeSoto Gee W E Brown Asa Rosenberger and Lee R Grim.

The Epworth League of the Baltimore conference opened at Braddock Street Church Winchester with a devotional service led by J R Poland. Rev Dr J R Wells spoke on The Evangelical Message of the Bible as about 200 delegates from eight districts attend and lodging is with Braddock Street members. Theodore Thomas presides, Herman M Wilson secretary, Roger Manuel treasurer. Programs are described as bright and attractive with sunrise prayers and Bible study addresses.
In Wardensville West Virginia four miles north of town a Wednesday afternoon storm damaged crops and struck a pasture fence. A fence strike killed three fine horses belonging to James M Warden while two mules fled unharmed as the rest of the herd scattered. Continued on second page.

Operators and government officials in Washington agreed to sweeping cuts on bituminous coal east of the Mississippi, with price reductions from $1 to $5 a ton plus a 60 cent government cut. Effective July 1, the plan also limits commissions to 25 cents per ton and bans multiple commissions, promising coal at mine price plus transport and a 25 cent levy. Director Smith estimates $180 million less revenue for operators and substantial savings for the public and coal legislation.
