The Labor Department said the cost of living fell one tenth of a percent in May driven by lower meat and grocery bills. The overall index stood at 127.4 percent of the 1947-49 average, showing little fluctuation over the past eight months.
Gen Maxwell D. Taylor to rejoin active duty as military adviser to President Kennedy amid the Berlin crisis. The 60 year old former Army chief of staff will review plans and maintain close liaison with the Pentagon and the NSC while shaping policy on Soviet pressure over West Berlin.
STEPHENS CITY No citizens attended the budget hearing here last night. The $15,800 budget, based on the same tax rate as last year, is $405 over the previous budget. The tax rate will be 60 cents per $100 valuation on real estate and 90 cents per $100 value for personal property. Final action will be taken by Council at a special meeting Wednesday evening.

The move aims to halt the 12 day disruption under Taft Hartley with a Friday deadline for findings. The board acts after Kennedy invoked Taft Hartley to address national security concerns.
A 20 count indictment in New Orleans charges 13 defendants with using long distance role play to route wagering calls through 100 cities. The case, aided by the IRS, claims a tax and toll fraud conspiracy involving Fixing switchboards to bypass charges.
