Dr. Vernon Nash urged a world government with statutory laws and an enforcement body, arguing UN reform is insufficient. In a Sarah Zane Hall town meeting, about 225 heard him. 58 voted for World Government, 4 against, 1 undecided. He proposed a world court to try violators and cited atomic era urgency.
The Star welcomes Frederick Clarke counties and Winchester veterans discharged and resuming civilian life. Names listed include Richard N. Olcott Humphrey E. Coleman Vernon G. Heltzel Hunter W. Buckner and others, with daily updates of locals.

Washington, June 27. The government added 3 to 4 cents per pound to coffee prices with Stabilization Director Chester Bowles approving the increase. The rise aims to encourage Latin American green coffee imports, with exporters gaining two extra cents and importers ceilings raised 2.075 cents. Bowles said the move follows recent higher prices for milk bread butter cheese and cereals and was reluctantly agreed upon to aid coffee producers facing higher costs.
Mrs. Helen Hardy Wright of the City Welfare Department said the department can meet clients’ needs for the rest of the year without curtailing grants unless relief costs rise sharply. Adoptions are up 85 percent in four months and 93 percent year over year in the Winchester area. The department would operate on city funds despite unmet state requests, aided by a last year’s appropriation. Milk fund collections at schools are better than expected as medical care costs rise.

He defended votes on the Case Bill OPA and Hobbs Anti Racketeering Bill and urged federal court resolution of labor disputes.
Cincinnati June 27 Walter P Reuther head of the CIO United Automobile Workers warns rising prices erase much of the gains won in the four month General Motors strike. He critiques price controls and OPA legislation while urging organizing 200000 white collar auto workers. He warns another depression could threaten homes jobs and democratic freedom citing purchasing power as the solution.
The Western Allies rejected two Soviet counter proposals on Trieste at a Paris meeting. Molotov suggested autonomous Yugoslav control or joint Italian Yugoslav sovereignty, both shots down as unworkable and contrary to ethnic grounds. The bloc planned further private talks as the council remains deadlocked on the Italian peace treaty.
The Col. James C. Baker Camp delegation returned from the Thirty Seventh Annual State Encampment of the United Spanish War Veterans in Richmond. Harry T. Cook was elected Junior Vice Commander of the Department of Virginia and gained unanimous support from 88 delegates. The camp also won a cup for the second time, needing three consecutive wins to hold it permanently. The 1947 encampment will be in Roanoke.
