Landfill in Frederick County shows progress under county oversight
Frederick County has reshaped the Winchester Frederick Clarke landfill since January by extinguishing an underground fire and covering an 11 acre area with crushed shale. Deputy Engineer Tom Maccubbin cites 90 to 95 percent fire suppression and costs totaling about 8 000 to 10 000 dollars funded by H C Christianson and Greenwood Fire Department. The project, completed by Perry Engineering, seeks a state operating permit by July 1 and aims to convert the area into a small park while meeting Vector Control standards.
