A truck carrying phosphorous tetrachloroide drums ruptured a drum at Smith Transfer Co terminal on Valley Ave. Fire crews contained liquid spray and fumes while consulting a chemist in Nitro West Virginia. The incident delayed the load en route to New Jersey and prompted a second fire call near Virginia Fruit Market.

A 12 man Circuit Court jury heard two hours of final arguments in the murder case of Gary LeRoy Humes, charged with killing 42 year old Forrest Hubbard in Arlington. Commonwealth’s Attorney Massie argued premeditated murder while defense counsel McKee and White challenged prosecution credibility and noted defense access to documents. The judge read 19 instructions on murder and manslaughter as testimony wrapped.
In Cuenca Ecuador an American Peace Corps volunteer David Porter Nelson was attacked by leftists shouting anti US slogans. Police halted the fight but could not catch any attackers and reports on Nelsons injuries were not clear.
