Winchester antiquarian J J Von Witt dies after hip fracture
Charles J J Von Witt known to Winchester tourists as an antiquarian died at Winchester Memorial Hospital from a fractured hip sustained on February 24. He requested cremation and his body will be taken to Washington after funeral services at his home Tuesday at 4 p.m. He was 60, born in Germany, and had lived in Winchester 18 years. He owned a valuable relic collection and was a student of Shenandoah Valley history, especially the Civil War. He is survived by a widow Miss Rife, a son Charles Theodore Von Witt, and a sister Mrs Harry Allen. He was active in local organizations and frequented hotels Evans and Jack.
