Reports from Herrin Illinois and Wilkinson County detail a brutal mining camp attack after a white flag surrender. Fatalities include strikebreaker K McDowell amid seizure of the scene as crowds boast retaliation. Police investigate while troops stand by and unions call for calm.
The Winchester baseball team defeated the Boyce league club yesterday afternoon by a score of four to one. A good crowd attended at the ball park. Batteries were Winchester Pflland Breckenridge and Boyce Holliday and Jloyd. The Winchester lineup included Skew Sn Pt Bel Hiser land Weems. Boyce plays here again next Monday.
Samuel Gompers of the American Federation of Labor was re-elected without opposition at the federation's annual convention in Cincinnati. It marked his 41st election to the office and all other officers were re-elected. Portland, Oregon, was chosen for the next convention in October 1923.
A large audience attended last evening's benefit concert at the Empire Theater featuring Mrs. Gavin Dhu High of New York City and former Winchester resident Miss Lillian Riely. Performances by Miss Pauline Shoop and the Shoop sisters drew encores, with Mrs. High's accompaniment by Mrs. Fuller. Father Rankin praised the event and Manager Baker for superb cooperation.
