Hijacker Kavaja Returns to U S After Ireland Flight
Nikola Kavaja, a 45 year old Serb anti-communist hijacker, is returned to the United States aboard the same Boeing 707 that he forced to fly to Ireland. He was arrested on arrival at McGuire Air Force Base New Jersey and will be arraigned. The Irish government, without an extradition treaty, deported him as an illegal immigrant along with his lawyer David Boeshich. Police and Irish security escorted them after a night in Shannon jail. The FBI had earlier linked Kavaja to a 1975 Chicago bombing and a hijack involving a 727 with 135 aboard. He faces sentencing in Chicago with five other Serb exiles for the bombing. The SEPO group is linked to the Serbian Fatherland freedom movement.
