The Senate passed a 10 percent surcharge on individuals and corporations and a $6 billion federal spending cut, sending the measure to President Johnson who plans to sign it. The plan retroactive to April 1 for individuals and January 1 for corporations expires June 30 next year unless extended.

Reports say Chief Justice Earl Warren plans to leave the Supreme Court the afternoon of his 75th birthday era amid debates over liberal rulings on race and police powers. Warren, 77, noted that judges may not retire before 70 after 10 years, and while Johnson could appoint a successor, Warren’s undated letter to the president indicates his wish to step down.
Visiting firefighters attend a three day Northern Virginia Firemen's Association gathering in Winchester. John William Morrison, an attendant at Doug's Esso Station on Millwood Ave, was robbed at gunpoint around 4 30 a m by three men in a black Corvair. They took about 110 dollars including 75 in company money and 35 from his wallet after forcing him to lie on the floor. The license plate was not obtained.
