President Roosevelt moved to form a coalition cabinet by sending to the Senate the nominations of Colonel Frank Knox for secretary of the navy and Henry L. Stimson for secretary of war. Knox, Chicago Daily News publisher and 1936 GOP vice presidential candidate, would replace Charles Edison who resigns June 24. Stimson previously served as secretary of state under Hoover and secretary of war under Taft. The White House noted Secretary Woodring has resigned, with a personal letter not to be released.

Senator Ernest Gibson Dies in Capital at 67
Washington June 20 Senator Ernest Gibson of Vermont died at age 67 after a week long heart ailment. A lawyer, he entered Congress in 1924 serving in the House and moved to the Senate in 1933.
