Peritoneoscope: a new window into the abdomen
Dr Logan Clendening discusses the peritoneoscope, a lighted instrument inserted through a small abdominal incision to examine the inside of the abdomen, offering a less invasive alternative to exploratory laparotomy and promising quicker, cheaper diagnoses. He notes limits and cites a young surgeon’s claim of differentiating liver conditions and detecting cancer, with hospital stays of about 24 hours. He also shares a reader question about a girl’s weight and fruit acids, and mentions Clendening’s pamphlets available for ten cents each.
