Clarke County bus driver killed in Maryland collision

Calvin College Cooper 41 of Clarke County was killed when his northbound 1970 Ford pickup collided with a southbound 1966 International pickup and wagon on State Rt. 65 near Tilghmanton Maryland. Lester Allen Churchey 31 of Keedysville Md. suffered minor injuries. Cooper died at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Nicholson Preliminary Hearing Set Tuesday

Clarke County Rt. 50 highway plan approved for 4.5 million

The State Highway Commission approved a 4.5 million project to dual lane 7.2 miles of Rt. 50 in Clarke County from Fauquier County line to Rt. 340. It will total about nine miles of divided highway with a new westbound bridge north of the old Harry Flood Byrd Bridge and preserve the River House site. 1989 traffic is projected to rise to 8,430 to 11,180 vehicles daily from current 4,860 to 5,570.
