In Berryville Virginia on June 18 ninety three children aged five to fourteen attended the daily vacation Bible school at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. J. McL. Carr leads daily Bible storytelling while Louise Lewis oversees supervising staff and teaches the leadership class.
The Victor Products Corporation plans a new two story brick and steel building at its Winchester site, with a 13 acre tract and a total plant value around 500000. Payroll averages 14000 monthly, and employment will rise with the expansion.
B P Brown a supply pastor at North Dallas Baptist Church was abducted by four men who stripped him bound him and hanged him from a chandelier. The rope stretched saving his life and he rested feet on the altar until neighbors heard his cries and freed him. Brown said he was seized as he walked home from hotel baggage work and had received threatening letters with Rev H P Marler in recent months.
A block of oak over 800 years old, taken from Winchester Cathedral's original foundation, was received by Fred L. Glaize Sr. of Glaize and Brother from Dr. P T Freeman of Peter Symonds School. Freeman notes the wood aided cathedral support during repairs begun in Richard I era, and recalls divers replacing peat foundations with cement.
The housing committee thanks the hosts and hostesses for opening their homes to visiting Christians and for their many kindnesses. They praise Winchester’s hospitality and cooperation in responding to the appeal.
National Flag Week observed by Winchester Kiwanis Club during a George Washington Hotel luncheon. Dr R M C Glass presided. Edwin Snider led the program with a timely address on the flag. Kenneth Windle, Soddy Haines, and Bruce Shade performed musical selections, Windle accompanying on piano. The remark on ancient prisons closes the feature.

Adjutant General W. W. Sale resigns effective July 1. Governor Pollard appoints Brigadier General Samuel G. Waller of Front Royal to succeed him. General Waller accepts the post after prompt communication. General Sabon t became adjutant general in 1912.
General Sale took a four or five month leave of absence late last winter due to ill health. He was succeeded as acting Adjutant General by General Waller, the senior ranking Virginia National Guard officer. Waller, born 1882, enlisted in 1903 and rose to major after World War I, holds a UVA honorary LLB from 1902.
Jack Forney of Winchester, longtime cinema figure, is named manager of Staunton’s Strand and New theatres. Both venues are operated by Warner Brothers Theatres Inc, the same chain as Staunton’s Capitol and Colonial. Forney is a son of Gray Avenue residents S L Forney and Mrs Forney and began in theater at the Empire Theatre under L Marshall Baker. He previously worked at the Capitol before moving to Staunton.

Stewart Elting of Winchester joins the Tabor Academy eight at Cambridge Mass preparing to sail for Henley regatta. Ernest Johnson stars as stroke. Roderick Beebe leads crew in aiming for British competition. Another Elting son earns top grades and honors at Mercersburg Academy.
New York June 18 Inspector Harold R King said Cunard Line officials in London claim Miss Starr Faithfull planned to commit suicide within 24 hours. King leaves open whether the death was homicide or self-inflicted as investigation continues. Dr Carr returns to New York aboard Franconia to aid justice and Cunard interests. The Franconian’s due Monday. The Gadsden Purchase note appears in this report.
At the regular board meeting the Shawnee Building and Loan Association declared a 32 percent semi annual dividend payable July 4 1931. Paid up share holders receive cash dividends while installment share holders have dividends credited to their accounts. By A B Solenberger secretary.
Two Warren county residents died in Winchester Memorial Hospital within an hour of each other. Ira G. Fristoe of Bentonville, about 50, died of a heart attack after an earlier operation. Thureza Rinker of Reliance died from severe burns when kerosene fumes exploded during lighting. Rinker leaves a three month old child. Fristoe’s funeral plans pending.
Clarke County schools Berryville and Boyce send teams to the Virginia Tech rally in Blacksburg for livestock and grain judging contests. Boyce competes in track and Berryville contributes two FFA representatives. Participants: Berryville judges William Ramey Broddus Childs Preston Henshaw Harold Castleman Lynwood Barnett. Boyce judges William Pifer John Anders Rixey Dearmont Robert Colston supervised by Charles C Beard.
J. T. Gatewood and H. A. Funkhouser were arraigned for staging a public fist fight. Judge Weems dismissed both with a warning. Perry Wilson pleaded guilty to illegal liquor possession, receiving a suspended 30 day jail term, a $123 fine, and three months in jail on the pending charge.

Boyce Virginia June 18 funeral services were held for Mrs Louisa Elizabeth Williams 75 wife of Charles W Williams at the sons Julian and Lawrence Williams home conducted by Rev R L Moore and interment was in Green Hill Cemetery. Mrs Williams a native of Frederick county lived many years in Stephens City and united with Stephens City Methodist Church South at 16. Surviving are her husband two sons one sister four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Lacy Humston John M Fishpaw Wilmer Carpenter J D Pine C L erepeace and William Cornwell.
