A Pennsy and Amtrak derailment near Blairsville intersection in the Pittsburgh district leaves fifteen people reported safe. A double header to Cincinnati limited plows through the air area following a hose separation on a slight curve near Washington Express.
Fifteen people including four rail workers and eleven passengers died when the Cincinnati Limited rear ended the Washington Express near Blairsville Intersection. The crash left two locomotives off the rails, sleepers telescoped, and survivors describing a night of screams and confusion amid lantern light.

Mrs. Susan Clagett Warden, aged 1, wife of Captain Jacob Warden, died at Claremont in Clarke County shortly before 1 pm. She leaves her husband, three children, two brothers, four grandchildren, and was a longtime member of the Berryville Presbyterian Church. Her family includes son Harry C. Warden, Berryville Basket Company president and local business leader. She married in 1868 and moved to Clarke County in 1875.
