Virginia appoints 50 state policemen from training camp
Franklin Ritter of Winchester Carl Garber of Frederick county and Browning Collins of Warren county head a group of 50 new state policemen named by John Q. Rhodes Jr. of the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles. Others include Wilbur Lambert Shenandoah Fauquier Elliott Howe Rockingham. The 52 total were chosen from 117 who trained in Spotsylvania. Applicants needed four year high school, 21 35 years old and fit.

Organization Forces Win Victories In Ninth District Caucus
In Norfolk June 16 the State Democratic organization won a decisive victory in the Ninth District caucus by electing seven members to the State Democratic committee over a slate backed by Congressman John W. Flannagan. Bland county’s votes were counted for the organization slate, and Flannagan moved to make the election unanimous, which was adopted. The Sixth District caucus also elected a harmonious slate with J N Gillespie named chairman. Roanoke Mayor Rydney Small supported, and Carter Glass drew applause. Delegates favored Clifton A Woodrum for delegate at large to Philadelphia despite reports he did not seek it. The district caucus proceeded with a near-unified outcome, aside from a minor contest over the district committee replacement of Hugh Johnston by E J Humphries.

The annual meeting of the Young People's League of Winchester Presbytery was held in the Presbyterian Church with about 200 youths from within a hundred miles. Veterans in Winchester receive baby bonds in mass distribution
About 500 veterans in Winchester and Frederick County received baby bonds yesterday and today. Roughly 400 went through the local post office with 100 distributed by other offices. Postmaster W Nelson Page said 90 percent were home to collect their bonds and no one waited more than 10 minutes at certification. The post office will stay open 7 30 to 9 tonight to certify remaining bonds. The largest bonds are 31 worth 1550.
