Winchester Men Sail With 116th Infantry To Overseas Duty
Letters from Winchester indicate the One Hundred Sixteenth Infantry including Company I under Capt. Robert Conrad has left Camp McClellan Anniston Alabama for overseas with the American expeditionary force. Regiment band with about fifty musicians accompanied the unit as it departs. Company I, once largely Winchester and Frederick County men, now shows only about twenty local soldiers as others transferred elsewhere. Captain Conrad’s company has around 260 on its roster, mostly Virginians, with few from Winchester and Frederick. The unit has served about two years since mobilization in Richmond and Brownsville Texas, followed by patrol duty and intensive training at Camp McClellan. Relatives’ prayers and good wishes accompany the travelers.

Apple dispute trial resumes in Frederick County court
The case of Lucien Lupton against John Thwaite over 1045 dollars for apple sales last autumn continued in the Frederick County Circuit Court. Thwaite admitted buying the apples but claimed 187 barrels, not 209, and said they were No 2 inferior fruit though he bought No 1. Witnesses for Lupton testified the apples were misrepresented.
