Three Ring Circus Delights Frederick County Fairgoers
Under threatening skies the King Brothers Circus entertained families at the Frederick County Fairgrounds. A 28 year old elephant named Ola greeted about 50 visitors as a three ring show unfolded with tightrope acts, aerials, trained chimps, dancing horses, and poodles, while vendors sold popcorn, cotton candy, and souvenirs. Prices ranged from 25 to 75 cents for sideshow and seating options, with extra for candy and balloons.

Electric Rate Hike in Front Royal Details and Plans
Front Royal residents face a 6.6 percent electric rate hike on July 1 to cover Potomac Edison's 10 percent rise under a two year old town contract for a total 20 percent increase. Town Manager Walter Duncan notes the higher charge funds the town, not profits, with May fuel charges totaling 91 555 and energy charges 53 128 while future fuel costs may drop with coal miners returning to work. The meeting also covered Rt 55 widening plans, a housing subdivision ordinance change, Riverton hydroelectric feasibility, and a noise nuisance complaint about racing bikes. Mayor William Lillard and four councilors attended.
