Byrd Hayden amendment kept in National Recovery bill
Washington notes that the Byrd Hayden amendment directing 50 million dollars for roads and national parks stays in the conference report. Virginia officials are urged to transfer 190000 acres of Blue Ridge land to the federal government to enable Shenandoah National Park and other park projects including Battlefield Park at Fredericksburg and Colonial National Monument at Williamsburg. Senator Byrd informs Governor Pollard and Virginia Conservation Commission chair Carson of the retained amendment and urges an immediate Virginia program to secure funds and park transfers.
