Shapiro Wins N.J. Assembly Primary in 28th District Upset
Peter Shapiro, 23, Harvard-trained and Newark-born, won the Democratic primary for New Jersey's 28th district Assembly seat. He stated he could live on the $10,000 salary, citing small personal needs and his aim to directly tackle state problems. He beat Patrick Scanlon and Rocco Neri, with plans to face Republican candidates in November. Kennedy Jr. helped briefly, but peers said Shapiro did the work himself.
