Handley High School held its commencement with 63 seniors receiving diplomas. Dr. Francis Pendleton Gaines of Washington and Lee University addressed the class on the ultimate end of education. Leo Gather Receives Army Second Lieutenant Commission
Leo W. Cather of West Boscawen Street is among 296 graduates of the United States Military Academy at West Point receiving commissions as second lieutenants. He learned his fate as Colonel Frederick H. Payne presented diplomas at Trophy Point. one cadet, Charles Hartwell Bonesteel III, graduated after illness at a hospital with presidential permission. Cather, a Betisel High alumnus, joined the academy July 1 1927 and has been assigned to field artillery before detaching to the air corps with orders to Randolph Field, Texas, in September.

All uniformed Boy Scouts of Winchester are asked to report at 9 a m tomorrow at the Presbyterian Church on Loudoun street to assist out of town delegates to the Christian Endeavor Convention by guiding them to their host homes after registration. Blames Bootleg Whiskey For Murderer’s Fate
Lorenzo Price, a one legged war veteran, was hanged in Baltimore for the January 1930 murder of Heuben Heyman on Cold Springs Lane. He had claimed his misdeeds were caused by bootleg whiskey and rejected statements from earlier trials. He attacked Dorothy Burgess, Heyman’s companion, after shooting Heyman.

Rider Injured After Upperville Colt and Horse Show Incident
Thomas Lackey, rider for D. C. Sands of Middleburg, was kicked in the paddock at Upperville show. He was taken to Winchester Memorial Hospital with a severe facial nose injury and lacerations.
