Holmes Sherman, 38, formerly of Frederick County, died suddenly in Philadelphia where he had lived and worked for a decade. He left behind a Philadelphia wife and two children, plus his mother Elizabeth Sherman and siblings in the county. Funeral services are set for 2:30 PM Wednesday at Mount Hebron Cemetery chapel.

The Friendship Fire Company plans to place flowers on all known graves of its members in Winchester. Captain George W. Kurtz assembled over a hundred names from Mount Hebron and Catholic Cemeteries. Negro assailant sought in assault near Warren County line
Police issued a lookout for Frank Brown a young Black man from near Leesburg Virginia weighing about 160 pounds five feet nine with a dark shirt and khaki trousers.
